Music is taught to all pupils from the Nursery to Year 8. The Pre-Prep pupils have one lesson a week in which singing, rhythm and percussion are the main focus. There are also opportunities for the children in the Pre-Prep to take part in small ensembles with the Pre-Prep Choir; Ocarinas and Boomwhackers being very popular.
As the pupils progress through the years the emphasis also includes composition work and learning about a wide range of composers as well as music from around the world. At the same time, they further develop their singing and listening skills. Pupils in Years 3 and 4 also all learn the recorder.
As well as class music there are several choral ensembles including a large choir, Lower Prep singing group, Girl Choristers as well as an elite group of vocalists in G5 which includes our boy choristers. Other ensembles include: String Group, Wind and Brass Ensembles, Recorder Consort, Samba Band and a Piano Trio.
There are 9 visiting instrumental teachers so pupils can learn all the main instruments and work towards music exams. Each term there are variety of opportunities to develop their performance skills including concerts; local music festivals; our annual music competition and music assemblies in addition to the school musical.
