Music

Music is taught to all pupils from the Nursery to Year 8. The Pre-Prep pupils have one lesson a week in which singing, rhythm and percussion are the main focus. There are also opportunities for the children in the Pre-Prep to take part in small ensembles with the Pre-Prep Choir; Ocarinas and Boomwhackers being very popular.

As the pupils progress through the years the emphasis also includes composition work and learning about a wide range of composers as well as music from around the world. At the same time, they further develop their singing and listening skills. Pupils in Years 3 and 4 also all learn the recorder.

As well as class music there are several choral ensembles including a large choir, Lower Prep singing group, Girl Choristers as well as an elite group of vocalists in G5 which includes our boy choristers. Other ensembles include: String Group, Wind and Brass Ensembles, Recorder Consort, Samba Band and a Piano Trio. See the full list of ensembles here.

There are currently thirteen visiting instrumental teachers so pupils can learn all the main instruments and work towards music exams. Each term there are a variety of opportunities to develop their performance skills including concerts; local music festivals; our annual music competition and music assemblies in addition to the school musical.
