Early Years

The Early Years unit, which includes Nursery and Reception, provides an exciting and stimulating start to a Hilden Grange education.  We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework with a mix of teacher led and child initiated learning as well as a variety of open ended activities for children to explore.  Teaching and activities in the EYFS are designed to meet the ‘Early Learning Goals’ which include Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development. The close ties between Nursery and Reception ensure a seamless transition when children move year groups.

We believe in empowering children to be resilient independent learners.  The classrooms offer a natural and harmonious environment facilitating a creative curriculum that enables children to express themselves freely and explore the world around them.  Authentic resources, such as china tea sets, ignite the children’s imagination and provoke communication. We embrace the concept of “Hygge.” Children wear slippers indoors for comfort and calmness thus supporting their emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging.

Outdoor learning is a core part of the curriculum.  The Early Years children enjoy a bespoke outdoor learning area where they can climb the tangle logs, visit the underground Hobbit House, investigate the water pump, create a magic potion in the mud kitchen, dig for treasure in the sand pit or simply enjoy their freedom with a companion. They also benefit from an adventure playground, outdoor classroom, wooden trim trail and extensive grounds for nature walks.

The children also benefit from specialist teachers in Drama, Music and PE further enhancing their multi-sensory experience.

Nursery and Reception children participate wholeheartedly in school life.  In addition to attending Pre-Prep and Prep School assemblies, and participating in Pre-Prep concerts, they also take part in whole school events, such as Science Week and Creative Arts Week. There is a host of clubs on offer for the Early Year children, and they can join the After School Care facility until 6pm.

We offer places in the Nursery to those children who have accepted a place in our Reception Classes. Sessions are flexible, children may attend mornings or full days. If you would like more information or would like to visit the nursery please contact the School Office on 01732 351169.
