Flying Start to the Football Season

The term may only be a little over three weeks old but already HG teams have played dozens of football and hockey fixtures and taken part in multiple tournaments.

The season started with all our Year 3 boys and girls forming six sides to take part in Mead’s U8 Mixed Football Festival. The A and B teams were joint winners of the A league whilst the C team were winners of the B competition. Well done to all our Year 3 boys and girls.

The second week of term saw all the Year 5 and 6 boys take part in ‘Tournament Day’; an event organised by our own Mr Withers that sees every child get to play in a tournament all on the same day. HG fielded A-G teams across the six graded competitions and one of our E/F sides was victorious in the E team Cup competition whilst the B and C sides went out of their competitions in the semi-final stage in Golden Goal and Penalties respectively.

Finally last weekend the U9 A squad were Cup winners at the Yardley Court U9 Football Tournament beating New Beacon 1-0 in a closely contested final. With another school pulling out at the last minute we were proud of our U8 A team for stepping up to fill the gap and playing very well against A teams a year older than them. The U8s finished 7th beating Dulwich Prep 2-0 in their playoff game.
