Nurturing Excellence Beyond the Classroom

We want learners to pursue their ambitions, be they academic, athletic or artistic. From Nursery to Year 8, we empower them to develop a broad skill set - one that is highly valuable and will lead to future accomplishments. Learners may choose from extensive extracurriculars, such as design technology, drama, music and various sports. By exploring these thrilling disciplines, our pupils can discover, explore and hone their unique talents, and emerge confident, curious, well-rounded individuals.

Sports

Sports

Pupils from Nursery to Year 8 enjoy a stimulating physical education programme that promotes sporting participation and encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle. Our young athletes have excelled at a local, regional and national level; however, while winning matches is important, our focus is primarily on learning, progress and enjoyment.

Beyond the games programme, we have numerous sports teams and a full list of sports fixtures against other preparatory schools.

Music

Music

Music is taught to all pupils from Nursery to Year 8. The Pre-Prep pupils have one lesson per week in which singing, rhythm and percussion are the main focus. As learners progress, the emphasis moves toward composition work, learning about various composers and music from around the world, and developing their singing and listening skills.

Almost two thirds of our pupils learn a musical instrument. We have 13 visiting instrumental teachers who are highly qualified and teach all the main instruments, and help prepare learners for their music exams.

Each term there are a variety of opportunities to develop performing skills, such as concerts, local festivals, our annual music competition, our school musical and music assemblies.

Drama

Drama

Drama plays an important role in school life here at Hilden Grange. Our children advance to exceptional levels in the performing arts, with many earning scholarships for their achievements. School productions in Years 4-8 take place in the E. M. Forster Theatre at Tonbridge School, giving learners the wonderful experience of performing on a professional stage.

Art and Design Technology

All children take Art and Design Technology (DT). The focus of these lessons, led by specialist teachers in our custom-built art room, is enjoyment and creative problem solving, as well as technical skills, cultural context and historical knowledge.  The Department is well-resourced, and children can work in a number of mediums, such as paint, clay, mixed media and computer-aided design.

Pupils flourish beyond the classrooms in sports, music and arts.
