Virtual Learning during Lockdown
During the first Lockdown virtual learning was delivered through our bespoke Homework App. Live lessons took place started in April, and each class in the Prep School had a virtual timetable in place for the delivery of live lessons on MS Teams. This system is now in place again.
The well-being of our pupils and indeed our staff is very important to us and was at the forefront of our mind in planning our virtual learning provision.
The timetables have been specially constructed to ensure that children are not overwhelmed by the number of sessions they should join and also provides them with time during the day when they are not in live lessons, to give them the opportunity to complete work and catch up if necessary. The breadth of the curriculum is recognized in these timetables, including the creative, physical and pastoral elements.
In the Pre-Prep, we produced suggested timetables for the children to follow and from the Nursery to Year 2, each class had three sessions of live learning each day. Assemblies continued on Teams for both the Prep and Pre-Prep.
We have been very proud of the way that the pupils have embraced this new way of working. Their focus, enthusiasm and resilience has been very impressive and during the Lockdown we saw lots of creative, high quality work.
The well-being of our pupils throughout the Lockdown remained our priority. We recognised that our pupils’ mental health would be more important than any of their academic skills during this period. How they felt during this time will stay with them long after they have forgotten any of the tasks they have completed. This will shape how they cope with difficult times in their lives ahead and if their experience has been positive, they will draw on their newly learnt skills.
On the children's return to school we will meet each child and determine where they are with their learning. They may have gaps and we will fill them and continue to progress their learning. Teachers are experts at this!

We just want to write and thank you for the lovely online lessons. [My child] is really enjoying them and is very enthusiastic about completing the tasks; once done he very proudly scans his work and attaches it to the app and reads the responses and admires the sticker. Talking to our friends with children in other schools, we feel especially grateful for the custom system and the live sessions.
Many thanks to a fabulous team who have delivered outstandingly again. I have one happy, all be it tired, little boy delighted to be in a new rhythm with familiar faces. How lucky are we!
You are all doing an amazing job under very stressful circumstances and [my child] has enjoyed it immensely. I can only imagine the amount of thought and work that has gone into everything you are doing.
It’s a real testament to the skill of the teachers that they have been able to turn their hands quite so readily to a completely different way of teaching and still deliver interesting, interactive content whilst also teaching the children to use the technology independently. [My child] is really engaged and this has continued into the follow up work that has been set. The fixed timetable is also really useful as he now accepts when it‘s school time without protest. We’ve seen some brilliant work from him this week that has really impressed us and family life has been much calmer too.
