Maths

The Maths Department at Hilden Grange aims to make Maths fun and interesting. We set pupils in the Prep school from Year 3 to Year 8 so we are able to offer smaller groups of children thus enabling us to extend or support pupils effectively. The Maths teachers in the Prep school are specialist teachers.  This enables us to lay down the correct foundations for the  mathematics pupils will study at secondary school.

From Year 3 to 6 we follow the Primary Framework, although we adapt our curriculum to include Algebra in Year 5 and 6. The Year 7 and 8 pupils follow the Common Entrance Syllabus in preparation for Entrance examinations to schools of their choice. A few pupils may be selected to enter Scholarship examinations to schools of their choice in Year 8.

We also participate in the Primary Maths Challenge and the Junior Maths Challenge and always have some very successful candidates. We also have maths software that supports our teaching in a fun and interactive way. The children especially enjoy these maths lessons in our ICT suites.
